Most of us grew up with tampon commercials showing a woman on her period vigorously playing tennis in white shorts. And yes, while we can play tennis on our period (or ski or jog) it doesn't mean this is optimal for our bodies.
In my practice I see many women who are heavy bleeding or bleeding for longer than 4 days. And almost all my clients have iron deficiency. So what's a girl to do?
Enter the concept of Moon Cocoon - a moontime retreat. Our ancestors used their bleeding time to access their deep intuition. Additionally, resting during our period will immensely help slow down heavy bleeding, shorten the bleed length as well and deeply replenish our energy reserves.
Think of it like a time to recharge our bodies on a deep level. A gift that keeps on giving - all month long!
So what does a Moon Cocoon look like? First we can prepare for a mini retreat. Have some premade stew or meals frozen (or get your partner to cook for you) and create a beautiful environment in your bedroom (fresh flowers anyone?)
You can gather your favorite scents, books, journal and turn off your phone!
Skip the social events and do the bare minimum if you have to work.
Take it as far as you like! Most importantly lay down as much a possible. This helps us not lose too much blood, as the uterine artery is open during our bleed. So skip the tennis! (And really any exercise.)
As you begin the reap the benefits of a juicy Moon Cocoon and deep connection with self and rest, you may even begin to look forward to your bleed. I know I do!
